Fundamentals Merivale Preschool & Nursery

Located within a beautiful Villa in the heart of Merivale, we use the gorgeous environment to provide a stunning home away from home for your children. We have three learning spaces which offer small group sizes with high quality teachers that provide care and education for children aged 3 months – 20 months (nursery), 20 months – 3 years (transition room) and 3 – 5 years (preschool).

We acknowledge the principles in Te Tiriti o Waitangi of protection, participation and partnership and use these to guide our everyday teaching practice.

We seek to weave the value of whakamana into our everyday teaching practice to empower tamariki to begin to realise their immense potential and build their mana and identity as a successful learner.

Creating a welcoming, caring and creative environment that embraces manaakitanga by developing relationships shows respect for all. These relationships ensure that tamariki are able to focus on learning how to learn with a strong focus on learning through fun and play.

Kāiako and tamariki value the importance of partnerships and building a strong foundation of whānaungatanga through an inviting environment where diversity and inclusiveness are valued.

The importance of supporting tamariki to develop emotional and social competence contributes to nurturing their wellbeing and resilience.  A key aspect of this is the way we encourage oral language skills through meaningful interactions and connections across the centre.

The learning environment is designed to build physical development and focuses on the Fundamental Movement Skills (Sport New Zealand). In addition, strong foundational skills of early literacy and numeracy are integrated into a wide range of learning experiences.

We aspire to provide a challenging and fun environment that encourages all tamariki to think, act and succeed in mind, body and spirit.
