At our daycare centre, we believe in partnering with you to maintain that essential home-centre connection - ensuring we’re not just meeting all of your child’s needs, but helping them reach their full potential.

Located just across the road from Burwood Hospital, our home-sweet-home creates a place where your child will feel safe, settled, loved - and ready to have fun learning, every day.

At our early childhood centre, tamariki, families and whānau matter to us. That’s why we offer enrolment options to suit your needs, including full time, and part time care and education. We are conveniently located for families in Burwood, Shirley, and Parklands.

A little about our team…

Your little one will thrive through the consistent care of our nurturing Kaiako, some having been part of our Kindercare team for several years. They are qualified, experienced and have a passion for tamariki and their care and education. For this reason, our team is able to meet the diverse needs of all our tamariki.

Best of all, our Kaiako love what they do. And that’s providing heart-centred, respectful care at every stage of your child’s development. They are committed to working together as a team, so that each child feels supported and guided to reach their full and amazing potential.

Why choose our centre?

Since our daycare centre opened in 2005, we’ve been nurturing tamariki from infancy through to school age, (which is usually five-years-old), in a culture of kindness.

Your little one will develop their incredible potential in a relaxed, welcoming environment - indoors and out - alongside other tamariki of a similar age and stage of development. Guided by our passionate Kaiako, they will participate in a variety of play-based learning activities that will help prepare them for school, and for life.

Families and whānau who have visited our fun-loving, homely centre for the first time, have told us that they immediately had that ‘gut feel’: that heartfelt certainty that assured them our ‘calm and happy atmosphere’ was the right place for their child to learn and grow - and for their family to feel supported.  So, follow your heart to Kindercare Burwood. You - and your little one - will be happy you did.

Our care and learning

At our safe, loving daycare centre, we believe regular, on-going communication with you is essential to providing the best care and learning for your child’s needs. That’s why we build a strong, supportive relationship with you - because we care about your child and your family.  Even if it’s simply an informal daily chat, together we can build that all-important connection between home and our centre. This, of course, is crucial to helping your child grow into a confident, independent and enthusiastic learner.

Daily learning through discovery and play experiences will focus on fostering your child’s self-help skills - something we embrace at our childcare centre. For this reason, we encourage your little one to take ownership of their belongings by providing them with their own basket to keep their things safe and organised.

Kiwi Room (babies room)

In our Kiwi Room, nurturing, respectful and loving care is at the heart of what we do, with fun-filled opportunities to learn and grow.

We begin by following your baby’s home routine as closely as possible, including their sleep pattern and feeding times. Your child has a key kaiako who is calm and responsive and spends quality time with your infant, to ensure their needs are met and to develop a loving connection with them.  Our peaceful care curriculum provides your baby with a sense of security and space to actively move and grow, supporting their developing foundation skills.

Our teachers are intentional and responsive when providing a care and play program. These indoor and outdoor environments are designed to incorporate heuristic play and movement opportunities.

You’ll know how your baby is settling in— thanks to daily communication from your key kaiako and baby journal, where we record your child’s progress and milestones. We encourage family and whānau to use your baby's journal to document what’s happening at home for us. This partnership with you will allow us to always maintain consistent, and loving care for your infant.

Tūī Room (toddlers room)

We aim to create a home-like environment for your toddler with rituals in this room, centred around respectful and loving care. They will enjoy the freedom to choose from a diverse range of natural resources including loose parts and books. There is plenty of sensory play opportunities throughout their day, and the ability to actively explore our exciting new outdoor play area.

We recognise that toddlers have play urges and that a ‘moving child is a learning child’ — repeated actions and patterns in children's play linked by “common threads of thought” (Nutbrown, 2006). That is why both our outdoor and indoor play area is created to respond to these play urges and offers your child a unique experience each day.

When your child is ready for toilet training let us know and we will work with you on this to ensure what happens in the centre is consistent with what you’re doing at home, we see this as a partnership and a positive learning experience for both you and your child.

To ensure you are part of your child’s care and education, our Kaiako in the Tūī Room will capture your child’s journey and document their learning stories on Educa (our closed e-portfolio platform that shares children's development in a meaningful way with their parents). We look forward to meeting you and your toddler!

Pūkeko Room (preschool and transition to school room)

Our social-emotional development program called You Can Do It (YCDI) prepares your preschooler for future learning success. We support them in key skills like resilience, organisation, confidence, getting along, and persistence which develops capable and confident learners.

Your preschooler will step into a whole new world of curiosity and wonder in our safe, loving environment that will give them the freedom to participate in experiences and explore. The challenging equipment and resources in our outdoor playground will extend your child’s fine and gross motor skills through climbing equipment, messy play and construction materials.

Building foundation skills is critical in this room — supporting children to build the necessary skills to transition to school. Kaiako and tamariki work on projects together to facilitate an inquiry-based approach to learning, encouraging your child to independently explore and become more curious about their world around them. Our teachers are intentional about allowing time for spontaneous experiences thereby creating a fun and engaging learning environment for your child. Weekly lunch box days and a daily mat time are just some of the ways we support children with their transition to school.

To ensure you are part of your child’s care and education, our Kaiako will capture your child’s journey and document their learning stories on Educa (our closed e-portfolio platform that shares children's development in a meaningful way with their parents). We invite you to share on here your children's development in order to build and maintain partnership in your child's care and educational journey.

Transition to School Programme

When the big step to primary school approaches, we’re ready to prepare your child for a smooth transition. Thanks to our strong relationships with the local schools, we’re able to offer current and relevant ways to get your little one ready for formal learning.

Longer, more structured mat times are one way we familiarise your preschooler with the routines of a classroom. Besides enjoying stories and games during these sessions, your child will also be building social and cognitive skills through turn-taking and question/answer sessions. Your preschooler will also be given the choice of indoor or outdoor play, and both environments will include fun-filled activities to strengthen their physical, cognitive and social competencies.

Because we also understand that skills like persistence, organisation and getting along with others are essential for school and for life, we place a strong emphasis on these through our social and emotional awareness programme, ‘You Can Do It’.

Early literacy skills are introduced in a fun-filled way, so your child will have fun building their awareness of letters and numbers through our ‘Letterland’ programme.

Our world of outdoor play

We understand that daily activity is essential to your little one’s physical, cognitive and social development. That’s why we offer safe, expansive outdoor areas that invite your child to play, explore and make friends, through active movement. Building those all-important foundational skills for the future has never been more fun, in our world of outdoor play.
