Led by our passionate Centre Director, Jeannie Steer, our experienced team will gently support your child and family from the start. We’re here for you - offering both full time and part time enrolment options.

Our childcare centre was once a beautiful family home and that’s exactly how it will feel to you and your child. Licenced for just 50 tamariki, our small, intimate environment ensures your little one will receive warm, attentive care and fun-filled learning within our culturally diverse setting.

We look forward to being there for you and your precious child, throughout their time at Kindercare.

Our care and learning

At our daycare centre, every day begins and ends with love. So with us, your child will be absolutely cherished, safe and happy, while receiving the highest standard of care and learning.

We’ve taken the time to weave special rituals and routines into your child’s day that they will look forward to and enjoy. For example, our Monday morning centre gathering provides the opportunity to sing the national anthem in English and Te Reo, then participate in fun-filled dancing, to music.

At each precious stage of your child’s development, they will be learning and growing in the care of one of our three rooms in the centre. They will also spend time outdoors in both of our stunning outdoor play areas, offering the natural shade of mature trees during the summer months - and beautiful leaves that fall to the ground, during autumn.

Kiwi Room (Babies Room)

In this room, we believe in partnering with you to provide the best possible care and learning for your pēpi. So from the beginning, we work with you to integrate your infant’s home routine, as closely as possible with our centre routines. We also document your baby’s journey in a daily journal - an ideal place for you to keep us connected to what’s happening at home. This allows us to provide consistent care. And, as your baby settles into their new environment, they’ll sleep soundly in our cozy nook for the smallest infants, and a dedicated sleep area for no more than four of our older babies.

Once your baby feels secure in our care, learning through exploration is the next step. Indoors, they’ll discover an environment that encourages their curiosity through sensory-rich and tactile experiences. Outdoors, they’ll enjoy the freedom of our expansive outdoor area, where they can play in the sandpit, crawl through different textures or climb on the obstacle course.

Tūī Room (Toddlers Room)

Your precious toddler is eager to learn right now. And there’s no better place for their care and growth, then playing in this room, where their independence will be affectionately nurtured.

In here, your child will learn about, for example, their natural world through invitations to play at table set-ups that incorporate ecological resources. They’ll also have lots of fun-filled opportunities to explore our expansive, leafy playground, shared by our preschool tamariki.

Our experienced Kaiako will foster your toddler’s autonomy by giving them the choice to participate in a range of varied activities each day, including music and movement, singing songs, and listening to books and board stories. As we get to know your child, our Teacher’s will respond to their cues by extending their natural interests.

Pūkeko Room (Preschool and Transition to School Room)

The preschool years are a pivotal time to lay the foundation skills children need to thrive when they begin formal learning at school.

We weave these foundations skills into our daily curriculum in these rooms. Introducing early literacy and the recognition of symbols for example can be done in a fun-filled way by encouraging your child to write their name down when they arrive in the mornings.

Our Teachers are intentional in helping your preschooler develop their self-help skills by guiding your child through everyday tasks like putting on their jacket, going to the toilet, and participating at group times. These opportunities allow your child to develop confidence and social competence through making friends and sharing what is special to them.

Your child will enjoy spending time in our outdoor play area, where they will have lots of opportunity and variety of equipment and set-ups to extend their gross motor skills. At our daycare centre, tamariki experience many delightful ways to learn and grow: and we give your child new choices each day, staying close by to support and guide them.

When your child is about four-and-a-half years old, we’ll chat to you about moving them up to our Transition to School group, where our daily program is focussed more on preparing them for primary school. Here, we continue to offer play-based activities that foster your child’s early literacy and numeracy skills, along with social capabilities through turn-taking and group projects.

Our world of outdoor play

We believe that outdoor play is part of childhood…and weather permitting, our team make use of every opportunity to give your child time outside. Why? Well besides the fun element, active movement is critical for every child’s social, physical and intellectual development. So with shaded areas for protection during the hottest summer days, and appropriate clothing for the winter cold, outdoor play is part of our program for your child’s healthy growth and development.

A little about our team

At our early childhood centre, our team goes above and beyond to provide the best possible care and education for your child. Because for us, keeping them safe, loved and learning is more than a job. It’s our passion for making a difference in every child’s life – and working in partnership with every family.

When you join our Kindercare family, you’ll feel the love, respect and support we have for each other, as a team. One family once described us as having an “awesome vibe”, with the contagious fun and laughter we share each day. We call it being a team that injects joy into serving with love. That’s how we help your child to reach their full potential.

You’re invited…

I warmly invite you to visit our childcare centre in Riccarton, so that you can meet me and my wonderful team. We’re proud of what we offer families and children. So, you can have a look around, with the opportunity to ask questions and chat to our Teachers.

You’re most welcome to spend some time with your child in the room that they may be enrolled in. I will make time to sit with you and talk about what we can provide to create a ‘home-away-from-home’ at Kindercare.

Please call, email, or visit us to find out more about our beautiful early childhood centre - where your child will be cherished.
